Educational Program

Apart from the appointed teaching material of the detailed curriculum – first writing, proscriptive exercises, painting, - ″BIRDS″ Nursery School sees for psycho-spiritual development of the child to accept Primary School knowledge. Therefore it sees to the toddlers’ harmonious and stable transition from early childhood to school age, without aberrations and problems.

They specifically cultivate the psycho-spiritual world of the child (Music, Music Instruments, musico-kinetic education) and assist its physical development by engaging into sport activities (rhythmic gymnastics, ballet, gymnastics).

In “Birds” Nursery School, we also attend to the toddlers’ autonomy in order to develop initiatives, to optimize their performance and enjoy the outcomes of their efforts, which are necessary for the formation of their personality.

Finally and in order to achieve the educational goals, ″BIRDS″ approach children individually as a unique personality and most importantly they consider organization and thorough work as the basis for an appropriate education.

Children come in touch with illustrated books, magazines, newspapers, dictionaries as well as wallpapers, maps etc. in way that these texts and pictures can easily be conveyed to them.

(Language, Visual Arts, Environmental Study, Music).

Children also “hear” the texts read to them by their teachers in a normal reading pace and appropriately adjusting her voice according to the text content. Children are encouraged to intervene throughout the reading process of the texts, by making assumptions for the story’s continuance and end. Every time the children are leaving the area of the Nursery school they are encouraged to try to recognize the names of some streets or some of the signs of stores etc.

In the Nursery School we support the children’s’ efforts to learn to hold the pencil and the chalk appropriately, by adopting the right body posture. To write their names on their assignments with capital or lowercase letters, just as individual letters or words.

Special Method of teaching Math

The systematic adaptation of a special method for teaching math excites children, on the one hand and opens their horizons regarding the formation of a mathematical thought “Calculus” on the other. This method brings excellent results and children, full of excitement, find many ways to change the shape of a numerical expression. This preparation that takes place also with the use of a computer not only results to children not facing any problems throughout the first grade of the Primary School but also to them showing special interest in math.

For all the courses provided in the detailed curriculum of the Ministry of Education there is a rich and complete relative multimedia material for every chapter or section of the school-texts.

English – French

“BIRDS” Nursery School provides courses of English to the students who have selected English as a foreign language. English is part of the daily school program. The students participate to the educational program with, songs, games, fairytales, painting, theatrical sketches etc. These activities consist mostly of listening and oral exercises since the students speak in English. English is presented to the children in form of visual stimuli such as images, flashcards, and painting etc. providing toddlers a natural way of learning the language. Therefore the students have the opportunity to realize the meaning of the words and speak directly in English. Therefore the students are encouraged to use English words -phrases without the need to base on their mother language. This course aims at providing students the opportunity to communicate in English, with a rather amusing while simultaneously educational way. As we open a door to learning in the world of English Language.

French just like English constitute part of the daily schedule at "BIRDS" Nursery School and parents have the opportunity to choose one of the two foreign languages.

The philosophy of this educational program is to provide children with ways of gradually discovering the French language by attending some levels: initially, understanding (with the help of movements and expressions, without the use of speech), and progressively adopt short “verbal reactions” (such as "yes", "no"), then in the process more "enriched reaction" on the level of oral speech. Then finally the child is in a position to speak and engage into little dialogues with their fellow students of their teachers.

In a specially arranged classroom for the French language, with thematic posters on the walls, children begin to learn in an entertaining way.

We initiate topics appropriate for their age.

What must be underlined is the variety of the educational means that are used: cd, fairytales, magnetic boards, paintings and puppets with the help of which we create short dialogues. This way we emphasize on the understanding and the production of oral speech.
